HOAi Engineering
We build AI agents that do the work of HOA management: they process invoices, answer homeowner calls, handle violations, and close the books. That's 9,000,000+ tasks a year. Along the way, we're building the industry's first operational benchmark, and every task an agent completes makes the next one better.
$ a note to candidates
Engineers here direct fleets of coding agents. If that sounds like fun, we should talk.

How we build agents
Every agent gets its own computer
Each interaction runs on its own isolated machine, so the agent is free to run code, call tools, and write to systems of record.
Every eval is built from real scenarios
HOA management had no benchmark, so we built one from real scenarios. An agent ships when it passes.
Every production trace becomes a test case
Humans review the agents' work in production. Each reviewed trace joins the eval set, and each caught mistake becomes a regression test.
- A board, resident, or manager request comes in.
- The agent runtime orchestrates it: planning, retries, idempotency.
- Work fans out to sandboxed tool execution, the state and memory store, and integration adapters.
- Observability covers every step: tracing, SLOs, incident response.
In production
| homes on the platform | 3,000,000+ |
|---|---|
| tasks completed per year | 9,000,000+ |
| homeowner calls answered per year | 1,000,000+ |
| invoices processed per month, one customer | 15,000+ |
| reduction in AP processing time, one customer | 95% |
| reduction in budgeting time, one customer | 90% |
| homeowner call hold time, one customer | 4 min → seconds |
| hours of manual work eliminated in 90 days, one customer | 1,400+ |

Interview process
-
Intro
We talk about what you've built and what we're building.
-
Technical
You solve coding and systems design problems that came out of our production work.
-
Team session
You work through a real problem with the engineers you'd join.
-
Decision
You end with a founder conversation. We come back with a clear yes or no.
Blog
- Improving caller identification for voice AI agents
Sourish Biswas
When callers aren't recognized by phone number, our voice agent looks them up by name and address. That lookup succeeded 5 times out of 70. Here is how we fixed it.
- Improving tail latency in parallel LLM calls
Varun Srinivasan
Parallel LLM calls made our document search faster on average and much slower at the tail. One straggler set the latency for the entire phase.
- Debugging Postgres performance under Row-Level Security
Zhixuan Lai
How an inefficient Row-Level Security policy drove Postgres CPU to 80%; and why EXPLAIN failed to reveal it.
- Why Postgres ignored our full-text search index
Varun Srinivasan
Our full-text search index existed and Postgres maintained it correctly. The shape of our query made the planner ignore it.
- Debugging stuck Node.js processes
Winona Schroeer-Smith
One of our critical apps kept failing health checks. Logs, metrics, and local repros came up empty. We dove into Node.js internals to find the root cause.
FAQ
- Why is there an HOAi billboard on the 101?
- We're hiring. One design is HOA-approved beige. The other is asking for help.
- Who are you looking for?
- High-agency engineers. You see something broken, you fix it without waiting for permission. Every role comes with real ownership, and we expect people to use it.
- What are the benefits?
- Medical, dental, and vision from day one. Unlimited PTO with a required minimum of one continuous week a year. 401(k) with company match. Parental leave. The full list is on every job posting.
